  1. The Year 2030 in Tectoria

February 24, 2017 by Tessa Bousfield

VIATEC (Victoria Innovation, Advanced Technology & Entrepreneurship Council), recently had a board meeting.

What’s so exciting about that you ask?

Well, it was the annual Strategic Planning session and after a lot of discussion, a goal was put in place to go from a $3.15 billion to a $10 billion tech sector in Greater Victoria by 2030!

In order to achieve this, VIATEC plans to work with the 5-15 companies who aspire to be $250 million in annual revenues and/or 250 staff or more, and flesh out what their needs are to get there (developing events, training and programs based on their common interests).

  2. Discover Tectoria 2017

February 17, 2017 by Tessa Bousfield

Discover Tectoria is the island’s BIGGEST tech expo, and it’s coming up on February 24th at the Crystal Garden in Victoria, BC.

From tech exhibitors (and employers), video games, Science explosions and panel discussions… there’s something for everyone! It’s a free event, runs from 11am to 6pm, lands on a Pro-D Day and is right after exams – so you have no excuses! Last year’s event brought out nearly 4000 attendees!

With close to 70 exhibitors and talks happening all day, it’s definitely THE place to be on February 24th. Check out the schedule below and listen to Dan Gunn explain more on the Zone at 91.3fm.

  3. Canada’s Favourite Airport*

February 3, 2017 by Tessa Bousfield

    *In our opinion 🙂

Dan Gunn has been to a lot of airports… but no matter where he travels, his all time favourite is the Victoria International Airport.

There’s a number of reasons why it ranks #1:

    • It has the cheapest landing fee in Canada
    • The friendliest and fastest security team
    • No noisy food court in sight! Instead, it offers local Spinnakers, a great White Spot and of course, a Timmy Ho’s
    • Lastly, it has to be the only airport that REDUCED short term parking from a toonie, to a loonie!

And, the airport is about to get even better. Remember where the arcade used to be in the arrival area? A mad scientist style installation highlighting Victoria’s entrepreneurial history, will be unveiled in late February!

VIATEC has partnered up with the Victoria International Airport, the South Island Prosperity Project, the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce and WD to install an experience that gives you history on Victoria’s technology, aviation, shipbuilding, ocean sciences, education and more. Victoria’s own, Russell Papp, has sourced and hand built every piece.
